GRASG’s 2025 COMMUNITY SERVICE WRAPUP for 2025
Six members of GRASG recently spent a morning at Santa Claus headquarters wrapping gifts for the Annual Christmas Event. The morning just flew buy as they wrapped packages for The Santa Claus Girls. It is only one of the numerous Community Projects GRASG is involved with.
Within the past several months, GRASG members have participated in numerous Community Events.
· Since September they have done mending for the Baxter Community’s Sustainability day and the Creston Neighborhood Sustainability Night out at Lucy’s Diner.
· The Grand Village Retirement home had a special ‘Innovations of Sewing‘ event where GRASG gave a presentation about the last hundred hears of sewing machines.
· The ‘Teach another Generation’ team has been working with young people, helping them learn sewing skills, through 4H in the summer and in an after school class going on right now.
· The Coordinator of Community Service just dropped off the last group of quilts made by the members to Sleep in Heavenly Peace. GRASG partners with SIHL, providing warm quilts to children without beds.
· Last but not least. GRASG has a special group of ladies that go monthly to Paws for a Cause. They have become a great asset to Paws with not only sewing, but troubleshooting on things concerning the dog uniforms.
So… you never know where you will see GRASG members. They are everywhere!
Paws With a Cause trains service dogs to assist people who have physical disabilities or mobility issues. Dogs are outfitted with a uniform vest to identify their work status. GRASG members have helped monthly to cut and sew vests for the dogs.
If you are interested in helping:
Since 2023, GRASG has had an ongoing partnership with Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SIHL), to provide quilts and pillow cases to go with the SIHL twin beds for needy children who have no bed. Up to March 2024, GRASG members have donated numerous quilts, blankets and pillowcases.
If you want to help:
The Sock Drive for needy children is an annual event that runs from the March meeting through the June meeting. In June, socks are donated to In-the-Image for their annual Back-to-School Shoe Giveaway. In 2023, we donated 485 Pair of socks. In 2024 we exceeded the goal of 500 pair.
Late in the fall, several women from GRASG join the community in wrapping gifts for Santa Claus Girls. Stay tuned for announcements at chapter meetings for date and time.
The GRASG Annual Picnic once again saw members sewing for a cause with friends. They made fleece blankets and tote bags for Safe Haven Ministries. This great article was posted on Facebook after the donation was delivered. Little do they know, we have more bags for them in the works.
Christmas 2021, GRASG members sewed over 100 pair of ripstop nylon mittens lined with polyester fleece to Santa Claus Girls for children of all ages.
